If and when I get this project done I’ll let you all know how she worked! Either way, if you have an old masonry fireplace that tears through wood in the winter time, think about getting a wood stove or wood stove insert to increase your fireplace’s efficiency.

Ok ok, so it wasn’t solid lard, but it was solid Palm Oil. At room temperature Palm Oil is in a fairly solid state, kind of like the way bacon grease gets after it’s cooled down. Surprisingly, it can burn in your diesel engine, so long as you let your straight vegetable oil system warm it up beyond its melting point. The trick is getting it into your tank when it’s solid like butter :) The trick, cut it into small manageable chunks and RAM it into the fill port of your heated veggie tank!

As you can see in the photos HERE, we used a bucket heater and heated the oil past it’s melting point and turned it into nice burnable liquid oil. We did this to demonstrate what’s happening inside the heated vegetable oil tank of a diesel vehicle that’s been modified to burn straight vegetable oil.

Remember that same solid bacon grease you were just imagining a minute ago? What happens to it when you heat it back up on the stove? That’s right it turns back into a liquid. The same goes for the solid Palm oil when it’s been placed into your heated vegetable oil tank. Once the oils heated up and in a liquid state and at the right temperature, you flip a switch on your dash and your diesel starts humming down the road on vegetable oil. The best part about it all is your diesel can’t tell the difference! Put that in your veggie tank and burn it!

Well, I don’t know if Charlie and I ever thought this day would come, but we’re finally ready to debut What in the World? Charlie and I have filmed countless hours of footage from our adventures over the years. We never knew what medium we would use to share our footage with everyone, but we always knew we wanted to share our love for sustainable living and travel with our friends and family. Today we’re going to take our first small step and start by posting our first episodes online for everyone to enjoy.

In the following weeks and months you’ll hopefully see more exciting episodes which will include:

1) Traveling to Chena Hot Springs Resort in Alaska. Charlie, my brother Matt and I document a geothermal power plant going into production for the first time. We also explore the other incredible sustainable projects they’re working on to make the resort as Green as possible.
2) Taking a 5000 mile family road trip with Charlie, his wife Dawnette, their 4 kids, our Grandma Edna and myself as we make a trip around the Great Lakes, into Canada and back. We travel the entire trip in Charlie’s Ford Excursion powered by free vegetable oil we collect from restaurants along the way.
3) Charlie and I are once again joined by my brother as we travel to Japan. We’re there to see all of the SVO (straight vegetable oil) related projects his Japanese dealer and friend Ryu Kagoshima has going on over there.
4) Charlie and I travel to Erfurt Germany for the first annual Plant Oil Congress where he’s been invited to represent the USA and speak on SVO (Straight Vegetable Oil) as fuel. We also hop in a diesel powered Volkswagen and hit the road, traveling through Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Italy and France.
5) Charlie, his wife, his 4 kids, my wife (girlfriend at the time) and I, travel over 4000 miles from Missouri to Alaska and back in his Ford Excursion powered by free vegetable oil we collect from restaurants along the way.

Hopefully throughout our show, you’ll not only be entertained but learn a little bit about some of the different environmentally sustainable technologies available today to go green and save green in the process! Thanks again for visiting our website and for watching our episodes! We hope you’ll come back again soon to see our latest episodes, blog posts on sustainable living and to participate in our contests! :)
